The Commission on Verification and Support for the Victims of Forced Mobilization under Japanese Collonialism in Korea, 2014

This volume documents the oral testimonies of Korean women subjected to sexual slavery by the Japanese military during the Asia-Pacific War. Compiled under the auspices of the Commission on Verification and Support for the Victims of Forced Mobilization under Japanese Colonialism in Korea, a governmental body established to address the legacies of wartime coercion, the collection has been published as Can You Hear Us? The Untold Narratives of Comfort Women. It presents the accounts of twelve survivors who endured years of forced mobilization and sexual violence before eventually returning home, as well as the testimony of a civic activist whose lifelong efforts have been dedicated to advancing recognition, justice, and redress for these victims. Together, these narratives provide an essential resource for understanding the lived experiences of “comfort women” and the broader struggle for historical accountability and human rights.
