Columbia-KIOST Joint Project on East Asian Ocean Law and Policy

The Center for Korean Legal Studies at Columbia Law School (CKLS) and the Ocean Policy Institute (OPI) at Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) are carrying out a joint project aimed at the establishment of a public policy institute in the United States, to be known as the Institute for East Asian Ocean Law and Policy. Organized under CKLS, the Institute will bring together an international consortium of legal scholars, government representatives, members of civil society and public policy organizations, and renowned public figures from North America, Europe and Asia.  The mission of the Institute is to advance current discourse on ocean conflicts in East Asia through the application of a contemporary international law and global governance approach to both long-standing and current issues that impact Korea and the East Asian ocean regime.
