Law School Report: Summer 2004

The Center for Korean Legal Studies co-hosted a talk with the Weatherhead Institute March 9, 2004, featuring Ambassador Chun Yung-woo, the deputy permanent representative of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations. He gave a presentation titled, “The North Korean Nuclear Issue: A South Korean Perspective.” His topic was timely following the end of the six-party talks in Beijing concerning North Korea's nuclear weapons program.

On March 4, 2004, Jeong-Ho Roh '88 was a panelist at a forum sponsored by the Korea Society called, “Leading Up to the Elections: Current Political Developments in South Korea.” Specifically, he spoke about the legal ramifications of corruption and constitutionalism issues leading up to the National Assembly elections in Korea. Later on April 20, he also participated in a panel organized by the East Asian Institute of Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs to discuss the aftermath of the elections.

During the 2004 spring semester, the Center inaugurated a new Korean Language Roundtable. Under this program, J.D. students who are interested in improving their spoken Korean are matched with LL.M. students and visiting scholars from Korea who are interested in advancing their English. This program provides a forum for improving language skills while at the same time providing an opportunity to exchange knowledge about their respective legal systems.
